Closing Time

As my time in Interactive Journalism comes to a close (already?) there are many things I have gained from this class. First and foremost I started my own blog, and learned how to research stories and communicate my opinions on the internet. My blog has been an outlet for me not only in this class but in my everyday life and I will try to continue managing it even though this class is over. Also, I learned how to use the Finalcut program to make my autobiography project. At first is was a struggle for me to get used to the technology but after a while I could integrate video footage, pictures, and music smoothly. In the future if I ever need to use the program again for a project I will have the knowledge and experience to pull it off. For me, this class has been a learning experience as well as a breath of fresh air compared to other electives offered at this school. I now know the power of the internet, the many ways people acquire their news, and all about the serious problems in the Gaza Strip. Overall signing up for this class has been beneficial and I will miss being here first period.

The Art of Persuasion

For the autobiography project, I believe I deserve an A- at the least. I made the effort to dig through my photo archive and pull out cherished memories captured on film. I narrated the whole thing even though I hate the sound of my own voice. I worked with final cut for the first time, and although my video wasn't perfect I think I pulled it off nicely. I gave away personal information about myself without revealing too much and my video segments were honest and unflinching. It flowed nicely and the other kids in this class seemed to react to it positively.

Nathan's Project

Nathan covered a lot in (I think) less than a minute.  The music was funky and created contrast with the images and videos.  I didn't hear his voice...but I guess art imitates life.  Or life imitates art?  Who cares.  Anyway I think Nathan's project was short, sweet, and to the point.

Dina's Project

Dina's video was amazing.  Her voice was very calm, yet powerful, even when she was talking about the war in her homeland.  Her video opened my eyes to a world outside America and made a lot of valid points about family and culture.  Her video was funny, sad, touching, and heart-warming all at the same time.  A+!!!

Anthony's Project

Anthony's project makes me feel sad.  It's kind of like taking a long walk by yourself through a forest after it rains.  He didn't have a narration which was different but it worked for him.  I liked his interviews because they weren't put-on or sentimental.  Good job.

Keith's Project

Keith's project was very original.  I was in it so it looked very professional.  He stole some of my music but I'll find a way to forgive him eventually.  Some parts dragged on for a little bit but it all came together at the end.

Gaza Strip Questions

Why is Israel attacking Gaza in the first place?
Israel dropped bombs over Gaza in retaliation to heavy rocket fire in that area.

Discuss the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.
Both the Israelis and the Palestinians believe that the Gaza Strip is their "holy land" and they are fighting to get full territory of it.

What are the similarities/differences between Hamas and Fatah?
Fatah is a large faction of Israelis and Hamas is a large faction of Palestinians. Whereas Hamas wants the destruction of Israel, Fatah is looking for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Both factions are living in fear and uncertainty as the war wages on.

"The Life of Dan Sher"

Dan's video was definitely interesting. There were some really funny pictures (like the rockin' rabbi) and I liked the way the music jumped around. I didn't quite understand the montage at the end...and it left me wondering. But was that his point? I may never know...

Nicole's Project

I liked Nicole's video especially because of her family. You got a sense of where she comes from and the people that shaped how she is today. I liked her grandparents the best. I would've interviewed mine but I don't think anyone would understand them. Good job!

My Video

I actually think my video came out okay. There was one transition with no voice over but whatever. I liked people's reactions and I think I made myself look like an interesting person. The music at the end was really jazzy and I love it. Peace out.

Camila's Project

I really liked Camila's project because it was personal and you got to know her within five minutes of footage. Her narration could've been stronger but I liked the way she integrated her interview with Dina throughout the whole project. She told me it was bad but I beg to differ!!

Anthony's Project

I really liked Anthony's video autobiography and it made mine look bad. I don't understand how he integrated actual video footage from his early years into this project but then again there's a lot of jazz I don't understand. The transitions were smooth and I really liked the clip of Ted Bundy at the end.

New Year New Gripes

Well, here I am back in school. My vacation went pretty well. I went to two Hanukkah parties and a couple Christmas parties. I got new clothes which I intend on wearing soon. I saw the Rocky Horror Picture Show for the second time and had somebody to kiss on New Year's for the first time. All in all it was fun and I can't believe it's over. When is our next vacation??!
